National Weather Service Tracks Hazardous Air Quality from Canadian Wildfires

President Trump calls for accountability as a Senator from Ohio will introduce sanctions against Canada for air pollution from smoke.

The National Weather Service (NWS) is tracking air quality in the Northeastern and Midwestern U.S. as smoke from over 800 Canadian wildfires has affected the atmosphere. The majority of the fires affecting the Great Lakes region are located in British Columbia and Northern Ontario.

An NWS meteorologist said, “The wildfires are so large that they’re putting so much material into the atmosphere, and that’s why the smoke is very dense up here; it’s why we’re seeing visibility reduction. It’s why occasionally folks are seeing ash actually fall from the sky; it’s resulting in some very poor air quality across the region.”

Air quality advisories have been issued as the smoke has been impacting Minnesota, Michigan, and Ohio. Many outdoor events have been canceled due to health concerns over air pollution. The smoke has affected parts of New England and New York, and the National Weather Service forecast that it would also reach the Mid-Atlantic, including Washington, D.C., Virginia, and North Carolina.

President Trump stated he was contacting Prime Minister Mark Carney about the yearly occurrence. The president said, “We are holding Canada responsible for the fact that they are not properly maintaining their Forests, and Brush therein, and the United States is being unnecessarily invaded by filthy, polluted, and unhealthy air, the quality of which is dangerous, and totally unacceptable!”

Senator Bernie Moreno of Ohio announced he would introduce legislation to impose sanctions on Canada, as this is the fourth consecutive year uncontrolled wildfires in that nation have affected the United States.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Administrator Zeldin and EPA officials as they monitor the smoke pollution affecting the U.S.
  • For NOAA and NWS personnel as they issue advisories regarding the unhealthy air quality.
  • For President Trump, Senator Moreno and U.S. authorities as they seek to hold Canada accountable for wildfires impacting the U.S.
